Privacy notice (POPIA)
This notice explains how Outside Quest ([BUSINESS NAME AND REGISTRATION NUMBER]) collects and uses personal information, under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who is responsible
The responsible party is [BUSINESS NAME AND REGISTRATION NUMBER], [PHYSICAL ADDRESS], Johannesburg, South Africa. Our Information Officer is [NAME], who you can reach through our contact form or at [SUPPORT EMAIL].
What we collect
- When you order: your name, email, phone number, delivery and billing address, and what you bought.
- When you hold a spot or join a list: your email, first name and the options you chose (for example camera colour or your explorer's age range).
- When you contact us, claim under the Unbreakable Promise or send a video review: what you send us, including any photos or video links.
- When you browse: technical information such as your device, pages visited and cookies, including the Meta (Facebook and Instagram) pixel, which helps us measure our ads.
Payment card and bank details go directly to our payment provider, Stitch. We never see or store them.
Children
Our products are for children, but our site is for grown-ups. We only collect a child's first name or age range, and only from a parent, guardian or gift giver. Video reviews must be sent by a parent or guardian, and we never publish a child's full name, school or where you live.
Why we use it
- To take, deliver and support your order, including returns and Unbreakable Promise claims.
- To tell you when checkout opens, if you held a spot.
- To send marketing emails, only if you agreed. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- To measure and improve our ads and website.
- To meet our legal and tax obligations.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers who help us run the shop: Shopify (our store platform), Stitch (payments), our courier (delivery), our email provider, and Meta (ad measurement). Some of them store information outside South Africa, under protections that meet POPIA's requirements. We never sell your information.
How long we keep it
Order records for as long as the law requires (usually 5 years). Marketing lists until you unsubscribe. Video reviews under the permission you gave on the review form.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, object to how we use it, or unsubscribe at any time. Contact our Information Officer through the contact form. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforeg.org.za.
